Research in Hannover: development impulses for innovative technology. Hannover’s Mechanical Engineering Faculty with 22 institutes is a national und international leader in production engineering. The quality of the research services in this field speak for themselves with an impressive list of industrial partners: BMW, DaimlerChrysler, and local companies Volkswagen and brake system manufacturer WABCO, rely on research carried out in Hannover. Other companies include Airbus, Alstom, Siemens, Sennheiser and the steel conglomerate Salzgitter AG.
PZH science and industry under one roof The Hannover Center for Production Technology (PZH) is a shining example of close co-operation between science and industry. Six production engineering institutes of the University of Hannover work under one roof with industrial partners and young technology companies. With space covering 22,000 m2, 250 scientific staff, 110 technicians and administration staff, and approx. 400 students providing ancillary support, PZH is a strong community for research and business with outstanding expertise and innovative power. A new business park in the immediate vicinity of PZH, which is already home to high-tech companies, provides plenty of room for relocations and start-ups.
Top level research - production engineering currently has 5 Collaborative Research Centers The special research areas (SFB) supported by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) are an important instrument for estabilishing top quality research at universities. This means of support gives scientists the opportunity to research specific topics over a longer period of time. Special research areas can last up to 12 years.
