University of Applied Sciences and Arts in HanoverTeaching and research, practice orientation, further education and internationality characterise the efficiency of the Fachhochschule Hannover (FHH), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Hanover. With more than 6.000 students the FHH is the second largest university in Hanover, offering a particularly wide range of subjects in nine departments. The FHH stands out due to short lenght of study and an intensive practice orientation in the teaching. That is why graduates meet with high acceptance in industry. Two work placements ensure that students gain first-hand experience on the job and have the chance to establish important contacts in companies. A very special feature among the subjects are the dual courses which combine on-the-job training with university study. Additionally, there are various tutorials for all students and special link programmes in the departments to ensure that first-year students are integrated easily. These programmes are also meant to increase the number of female students and to help to improve the integration of students from foreign countries. Research and development, as well as the transfer of knowledge and technology at the FHH always focus on practical solutions. Technology transfer ensures that technology and know-how within the FHH is made available to companies and other organisations. The FHH encourages and supports international mobility of its students to keep up with the growing globalisation of the economy. Cooperative agreements with more than 50 partner institutions worldwide provide opportunities for students to enhance their language and intercultural skills and eventually increase their professional chances both at home and abroad. As a special service for all students at universities of applied sciences in Lower Saxony, the U.S. Advising Centre, was established at the FHH as an information resource on university study and practical training options in the U.S. The service is primarily internet-based.

LZH Laser Akademie GmbH is a spin-off of the Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH) and was founded in 2003. Its objective is to professionally further develop the training and advanced training carried out since the founding of LZH. The existing range of courses is continually expanded and makes use of the wide range of expertise available within the LZH working groups, and the equipment available in the testing area. LZH Laser Akademie provides training and advanced training at all company levels in the whole spectrum of laser technology and optical technology.
