Hannover gets things moving

The importance of the automotive sector for the Hannover Region is clearly highlighted by a workforce of 30,000 employed in this area. The automotive sector in the Hannover Region is dominated by the headquarters of Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge (VW commercial vehicles) as well as the global system suppliers Continental AG and WABCO. There is also a highly developed research environment. These companies have considerable economic power and are also significant purchasers of product and production-related goods and services.

One of the special location factors for the automotive industry in the Hannover Region – in addition to the modern logistics infrastructure with superb transport connections - is the very broad-based research environment with around 40 institutes and university-related institutions involved in automotive technology research. Adequate numbers of experts and scientific staff are available in the area to handle technical questions or design experiments.

The rubber industry also plays an exceptional role in Hannover's industrial landscape. Major rubber-processing industries, as well as major manufacturers of rubber production machines and the German Institute for Rubber Technology – the only research institute of its kind in Europe – create a strong network that is amongst the worldwide leaders in rubber technology.

hannoverimpuls steps into the role of active moderator between all of the players in the automotive industry. The aim is to establish intense networking in this sector to exploit all of the potential to maintain the economic dynamism of the Hannover Region as an automotive location.
