hannoverimpuls is the business promotion company for the City of Hanover and the surrounding region. Founded in April 2003, the company’s mission is to reinforce the region’s economy, create new jobs and optimize the impact of local economic policy.

hannoverimpuls has identified six key sectors that promise major growth potential in the Hanover business region: Automotive, Energy Solutions, IT, Life Sciences, Optical Technologies, and Production Engineering. Specific projects have been assigned to each of these sectors on the basis of criteria such as job potential, number of businesses, and exploitable patents at universities and research institutes. The aim of these projects is to attract new companies and start-ups to the area, promote close cooperation between research and industry, and establish contacts with potential partners.

In these key sectors, the objective now is to develop dynamic clusters around the existing business and research resources represented, for example, by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Hanover Laser Centre and Hanover Medical College. The aim is to increase the concentration of companies and enhance conditions in a given sector by targeted funding of start-ups, growth and relocation. The focus of competency in each of these sectors is formed by the technology centres, universities and technical colleges in the region. In deliberate proximity to one another, research and industry players can concentrate on developing marketable innovations.

An additional goal is to further enhance the attractiveness of the Hanover business region as a whole and to draw German and international companies and research institutes to the area. The aim is to promote the growth of all companies in the key sectors located in the region – thereby strengthening the region as a whole.

Alongside the individual projects in the five key sectors, hannoverimpuls is working in close cooperation with partners in businesses, professional organizations, unions, politics and administration to implement new employment models. The aim here is both to promote the creation of additional training posts and to safeguard the supply of urgently needed experts.

The consolidation of this and other projects to strengthen the Hanover business region will continue to motivate the staff of hannoverimpuls and their partners into the future.
