The Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH) is one of the leading laser research institutes in Germany and abroad covering the whole area of laser technology and optics. Around 200 staff, including engineers and physicists, provide customer-specific solutions in all areas of laser technology, from nanomachining and micromachining, automotive sheet metal welding, the development of medical lasers, and aerospace measurement technology applications. LZH primarily supports the growth of small and medium-sized industrial companies working in these fields in Germany.

LZH's work concentrates on many fields including laser development, lasers for medical technology and biophotonic applications, the development and characterisation of optical components, process control and regulation, quality assurance, equipment development, laser measuring technology, cutting and welding, surface treatment, micromachining, rapid prototyping, and laser safety.
